Ante-Natal Clinic

When you know you are pregnant your first visit to arrange ante-natal care will be with the doctor.  He will assess your general health and past obstetric history in order to refer you onto the midwife.  The involvement of other health professionals will depend upon your general health and preference.

After the doctor has referred you to the ante-natal clinic you will be contacted directly by the midwife and give you your first appointment - this is called your 'booking visit'.  Arrangements will be made for ultrasound scans and blood tests by the midwife and she will discuss these details with you.  She will give you details of how to contact her at this appointment.

If you have had a difficult time with a previous pregnancy or anticipate a difficult time then you are encouraged to contact your doctor as soon as you know you are pregnant.

Whilst some patients choose a home birth (after discussion with the midwife) most of our patients choose to deliver at Glan Clwyd Hospital - the midwife will help co-ordinate your care.

You will be invited to attend appointments at the Royal Alexandra Hospital or Glan Clwyd Hospital depending on your requirements.

Child Immunisation & Surveillance

The Immunisaton Clinic is run by nurse practitioner Pam Worthington.

All children between birth and the age of five years will be offered immunisations following the government guidelines.

All children are eligible to be registered for Child Health Surveillance between birth and five years.  We encourage all parents/guardians to agree to registration.  This programme monitors children for possible developmental problems that may otherwise cause health problems not picked up at an early stage i.e. hearing problems or speech delay.
